Nicolaie Dumitru is my name, but friends call me Nae. I do not remember much from my first years of life, apart from what my uncle told me… that I have 5 brothers, that our father left us and that mother died. I was found on the street by a policeman who brought me to a children shelter in Buftea. I was 4 years old. This was very hard for me. I thought that this was normal and that this is how life is, but I have seen the difference once I reached Life and Light Foundation. I could say many things about the shelter in Buftea, to vent… I remember that I could not talk well; even now I feel nervous and agitated because of this, but everything changed once the Centre in Buftea was closed.
Since my arrival here, at the Life and Light Foundation, I discovered a new world, a world where I feel well, I am understood and encouraged to go to school. Here I was able to forget a lot from my past. Here is home!

I would like to tell you a bit about my life. Long time ago, before meeting these wonderful people who take care of me, I have had a more complicated childhood.
I was born 13 years ago when my family brought me to this world. My family is formed by my parents, my three sisters and me. Unfortunately, each of us lives in different contexts: I am at the Life and Light Foundation, my three younger sisters are under the care of a foster parent, while my older sister is in another centre.
The place where I am living is a pleasant environment, even under difficult times.
I learned new things that can help me in the future: to knit, to clean up my room, to take care of my personal hygiene.
In the centre I learned how to get along with my colleagues even if sometimes we have small conflicts. I have the possibility to go to school and to have good grades.
I am very happy that I find myself so well in this centre and I hope to stay as much as possible to continue my studies.

My name is Sara-Paulina. I was born on August 19th, 2001, in Bucharest and, for ten years, I was raised in Cornesti, Dâmbovița county. There, I stayed with my grandpa, grandma, my parents and my two sisters, Rebeca and Daniela.
Life was quite pretty back then, but everything got complicated when my grandpa died.
Our financial possibilities decreased, we could not pay my grandma’s loan anymore, so we had to pay with our house instead. So, not having a house anymore, we were left on the street and we had been living our lives where and how we could.
Apart from us, the three girls, two boys were born. To my mother, this was too much, so she asked for help, bringing us to a care home.
Now I live at a foundation that is called Life and Light.
This is a wonderful place, with special people who are very understanding to each and every child.
I am happy here because I can go to school, I learned personal hygiene and food is very good.
I wish so much that I could stay here until I finish high school and even university.
